INTRODUCTION

One of my first tastes in video game development was with the discovery of Journey to the Center of Hawthrone, a fan-made game based on an episode of NBC's Community where the show is shown from the perspective of a video game. My love of the show and equal love of video games kept me intrigued during the games earlier development, until one day, they started a spreadsheet of character sprites they wanted to add to the game, and it was up to the community to jump in and help out. When I saw this spreadsheet, I realized I could be a part of the development process, and it made me incredibly excited! To this day, that excitement still keeps me going in my other development projects, and I am so proud of the sprites I created that made it into the final game.

CREATING SPRITE SHEETS

One of the first character skins I created was Cowboy Abed (From Episode 21 of Season 2), seen in video 1 in the preview section above. The Cowboy costume was a perfect sprite to start with as the most complicated feature to create was the hat, so it was both an introduction and a little challenge.

For the second character skin, I decided to create something a little more casual, just to get more practice in for sprite creation. Sprite two was the Heather Popandlocklear Jeff costume (From Episode 2 of Season 2), seen in video 2 in the preview section above.

The third character skin I wanted to get a little more creative, so I chose one of the most complicated options on the list, Mercury Poisoning Jeff (Also from Episode 21 of Season 2), seen in video 3 in the preview section above. This skin was a fun challenge as the character is in a straight jacket, meaning I had the chance to be creative and figure out a way for him to interact with the world with the restricted movement.

Finally, the last skin I created was the Bullet Wound Troy costume (Again from Episode 21 of Season 2), seen in the screenshot at position 4 in the preview section above. Sadly I never finished this sprite, and in the end, I submitted the few tiles that I created and asked someone else to complete the remaining tiles. Sadly for some reason, Wounded Troy didn't make it into the final game, though still an amazing looking skin!
